Located on the left bank of the Tech, the fortified city is separated in two by the Guillème torrent which crosses it perpendicularly. On one side, the lower town is home to
39;old bourgeois houses, church, XNUMXth century town house and shops. Steep streets and winding alleys lined with narrow houses give the upper town, formerly dominated by the “royal castle”, a medieval appearance. The medieval enclosure was remodeled in the XNUMXth century according to Vauban's project. The ramparts are punctuated by various patrol paths, watchtowers, gates, bretèche gates and other defensive elements.
