Conference “Le Conflent, 30 million years of geological history” by Marc Calvet, Professor Emeritus at the University of Perpignan, UMR CNRS 7194 “Natural History of Prehistoric Man”
The landscapes of Conflent offer several enigmas. First, the enigma of the high plateaus which crown the mountains. Not all mountains are pointy like Canigó Peak!
Then, the enigma of the route of the Têt, which does not flow in the center of the basin as would be logical. Finally, the enigma of the long wall cut into high triangular facets which marks its southern border at the contact with the Canigó and Carança massifs. The resolution of these enigmas sheds light on regional geological and geomorphological history.
