The Vauban Fortress and the Ramparts

Prats-de-mollo-la-preste

Located on the left bank of the Tech, the fortified town is divided in two by the Guillème torrent which crosses it. On one side, the lower town is home to old bourgeois houses, a church and a 17th century town house as well as shops. While steep streets and narrow houses give the upper town, once dominated by the "royal castle", a medieval appearance.
The medieval enclosure was remodeled in the XNUMXth century according to Vauban's project. The ramparts are punctuated by various walkways, watchtowers, gates, gatehouses and other defensive elements.
