Abbaye Bénédictine fondée en 778, l'abbaye Sainte-Marie peut s'enorgueillir d'être la plus ancienne abbaye carolingienne de Catalogne. L'église romane à trois nefs abrite un grand orgue Schmidt du XVIII° siècle. Le cloître gothique du XIII° siècle est accolé à l'église. Don't miss the Bear Festival!

A unique event in Europe, which takes place every year in the villages of Prats-de-Mollo-La-Preste, Arles-sur-Tech and Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans. This ancestral festival, during the month of February, is a living expression of the traditions and culture of Haut Vallespir.

The Bear Festivals

La Fête de l’Ours est une tradition ancestrale célébrée dans plusieurs villages des Pyrénées, notamment à Prats-de-Mollo, Arles-sur-Tech et Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans. Elle symbolise la fin de l’hiver et l’arrivée du printemps, mêlant légendes locales et rituels anciens. Le point central de cette fête est la capture et la transformation de l’ours, représentant la nature sauvage, par les chasseurs. L’ours, souvent incarné par un villageois, est maquillé de noir et enchaîne des courses à travers les rues, poursuivi par les chasseurs. La fête se termine par la « Raseta », moment où l’ours est symboliquement apprivoisé et devient humain.
