The Canigó destination is an exceptional mountain where legend and tradition, profane and sacred, intertwine. With just over 50 inhabitants, it is also a lively and inhabited destination around five historic micro-regions: Conflent, Vallespir, Rossello, Riberal and Aspres. Canigó is also an emblematic place for Catalans who consider it their sacred mountain.
The attraction for this mountain, its notoriety, its heritage diversity and the concerted work between the Syndicat mixte and the Communities of communes at the level of the destination Canigó – Catalan country for several years, have included it among the Great Sites of the Occitanie Region.
Nature tourism:
The Canigó massif stands out as a national "spot" for roaming and the practice of outdoor activities with more than 200 referenced practice sites. Remarkably, these activities are practiced within the greatest density ofprotected natural areas from Occitania. Thanks to the generous climate, activities can be practiced all year round, as demonstrated by the sporting events that punctuate the seasons of the destination: 100 miles Ultra Trail South of France, the Bearman Ironman Xtrem Triathlon, The Vallespir Skyrace Trail Skyrunning, The Challenge South Canigo grouping together 6 Trails over the year.
Well-being and hydrotherapy:
fruit of torment geological through the ages, the basement of the destination Canigo is full of natural hot waters whose resurgences and virtues make this massif a well-being destination in its own right, both as the medical treatment, on the one hand and fitness stay, on the other hand. Historic cradle of Thermal Chain of the Sun, the 4 thermal spas: Amélie-les-Bains, La Preste, Vernet-les-Bains and Molitg-les-Bains welcome nearly 40 spa guests each year. It is the highest thermal concentration in the Region, i.e. a quarter of the curists welcomed annually in Occitania.

With nearly a hundred monuments classified or inscribed, a site listed as a World Heritage SiteUNESCO (Villefranche-de-Conflent), two Country of Art and History (Conflent-Canigó and Catalan Valleys) and three most beautiful villages in France (Eus, Villefranche, Evol), the destination is full of heritage sites of regional and international interest. In connection with the soils and practices agricultural, the territory offers many agricultural productions under official identification signs of quality and original (AOC / PGI, ORGANIC, ..). Rosée des Pyrénées® (veal), El Xaï® (lamb), El Tirabuixó® (pig), Black truffle from Canigó, Rousquille from Vallespir.
