Every June 22 at 22 p.m., the network of Towers and Castles of the Kingdom of Majorca lights up around Canigó in Haut Vallespir, Roussillon Conflent and Conflent Canigó under the name TORREFOCS (Tower of fire).
Every year, the signal tower network is illuminated, and this has been the case since 2015. It was also one of the only events that continued during the COVID-19 pandemic, because there was no need to gather in one place and the event was visible to everyone.
The signal towers light up to accompany the Canigó flame at the summit. The flame comes back down from Canigó to light the Midsummer fires in the villages. It is a message of hope, peace and fraternity transmitted by this signal and relayed from village to village.
Mir Tower (Prats-de-Mollo), Guardia Tower (Prats-de-Mollo), Cabrenç Tower (Serralongue and Lamanère), Mollet Castle (Montferrer), Cortsaví Tower (Corsavy), Batera Tower (Corsavy and Saint Marsal), La Bastide de Mollet (La Bastide), Palalda Tower (Amélie-les-Bains), Belpuig Castle (Prunet and Belpuig), Bélesta Castle (Bélesta), Força Réal (Millas), Eus Bell Tower (Eus), Castell d'Arrià (Ria-Sirach), Prats-Balaguer Tower (Fontpédrouse), Corts Tower (Taurinya), Goa Tower (Sahorre and Casteil), Badabanys Tower (Fuilla), Castell de Torrèn (Sahorre) as well that the Tower of Prats-de-Sournia (Prats-de-Sournia).
Since 2024, the towers have been illuminated using LED lighting balloons and orange filters to remove the blue spectrum from the lighting in order to protect nocturnal wildlife.
