In his will, validated in 1021, Bernard, Count of Besalu, bequeathed to his wife, Tota, the county of Vallespir with Castelnou and the Château du Mondony: the exclusive mention of these two fortresses seems to put them on the same footing, at opposite ends of the Vallespir proper. The Château du Mondony had a chapel dedicated to the Holy Saviour. In 1400, in fact, mention is made of the legacy to Saint Saviour of the Roca de Montdoni. It is therefore at the Roca de Sant Salvador, also called that, that the Château de Montdony must be located, on the territory of Montalba. In his will of 1267, Guillaume-Hugues de Serralonga made a legacy of 10 sous to the church of Montdony: this is the first mention of our chapel. Alart believes that this castle, which, due to its geographical context, was not intended to defend or close an important road or passage, had no other character than that of a feudal lair.
