STATUES OF FANNY MARC

Statue "Truth Coming Out of the Well" by the sculptor Fanny MARC (1858-1937). This statue of a naked young woman coming out of a well represents the allegory of "Truth". "Truth" is without makeup and without clothes (totally naked young woman) and must be sought in the depths of the mind (the well). The allegory of "Truth" represented in this way is somewhat banal. It has been a theme taken up by several painters and sculptors. On closer inspection of this work, we see a handle in the statue's right hand. This handle is probably that of a mirror whose upper part has been broken. Indeed, in the works representing "Truth Coming Out of the Well", the young woman is holding a mirror that symbolizes the individual facing himself. This statue of "The Truth Coming Out of the Well" was placed in the Garden of the Old Green Theater located on rue des Thermes in Amélie-les-Bains. A second statue is visible in front of the Office
