Intended to monitor the Franco-Spanish border, Fort Lagarde overlooks the fortified town of Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste. At the heart of the monument, a medieval signal tower dominates the Keep, reinforced from 1686 by Vauban. A military withdrawal route connects the fort to the city, thus creating a remarkable architectural ensemble.
