THE CORSAVY TOWER

The Corsavy tower is a circular tower with a half-moon buttress on the mountain side, after its original construction. It seems that this buttress was obviously built to prevent the tower from tipping over in the ravine. This tower had the function of sending or transmitting a signal to the lookouts of the other towers in the region during invasions, it is a so-called signal tower. The tower cannot be visited but you can approach it and walk around it. There is a very beautiful panorama over the village of Corsavy and over the Vallespir to the sea. Erected in the XNUMXth century by Jacques II of Majorca, these towers, for the most part installed on the ridges of the mountains, thus established a veritable network of smoke signal communication. The signal was sent through a fire lit at the top of the tower. The valley could thus be warned of an attack.
