Perched on its ridge overlooking Roussillon, La Torre de Batera
is the highlight of a string of signal towers that marked the Haut Vallespir. Visible from afar, the one at Batère guarded a "port" (hence its old name Tour de la Porte), the Pyrenean term for a pass.
